Fourth Grade Music Standards
Music is a standard based subject. Student grades are based on the success of their performance of the music standards being assessed during the grading period. Skills are assessed through singing, movement, playing instruments, writing assignments and activities or games.
Grading Procedures for Students in fourth grade.
Students in fourth grade are given two music grades on their report card. The first is a performance grade that demonstrates performance-based competency of the music skills being learned. The second is a behavior skills grade that indicates their participation and behavior leading to success in the classroom.
Performance Skills Grade
The performance grade is determined by each student’s ability to meet the standard for three specific music skills for each quarter. An average of those three grades will be indicated as either and A, B, C, D, or F on the report card.
Behavior Skills Grade
The behavior skills grade is indicated on the report card as
S – successful, NI – needs improvement, and U – unsatisfactory.
Music Progress Reports
Mid-term progress reports are sent out to all 4th grade students who are not earning a minimum of a “C” on the performance skills standards and/or a minimum of “S” on the behavior skills being assessed at that time.
These are the music standards and skills that are being assessed for the purpose of report card grading for each of the grading periods.
