Second Grade Music Standards
Music is a standard based subject. Student grades are based on the success of their performance of the music standards being assessed during the grading period. Skills are assessed through singing, movement, playing instruments, writing assignments and activities or games.
Grading Procedures
Students in second grade are given three music grades on their report card each nine weeks. Two grades are standards based music performance skills that are assessed during the grading period and the third is a learning skills and behavior grade.
Performance Skills
Performance skills are indicated as either 3 – meets the standard, 2- progressing toward meeting the standard, or 1 – limited progress or does not meet the standard.
Learning Skills and Behavior
The learning skills and behavior grade is indicated as S – Successful, P – Progressing, and N – Needs Improvement.
A students willingness to consistently and appropriately participate is a reflection of his/her learning skills and/or behavior grade.
These are the music standards and skills that are being assessed for the purpose of report card grading for each grading period.
Grading Period One:
1) Consistently performs 2 or 3 note melodic patterns using instruments 2) Performs ostinati (repeated patterns).
Grading Period Two:
1) Reads simple 2 or 3 note melodic patterns within a treble clef staff. 2) Improvises simple rhythmic patterns using a variety of sound sources.
Grading Period Three:
1) Reads simple 2 or 3 note melodic patterns within a treble clef staff. 2) Improvises simple rhythmic patterns using a variety of sound sources.
Grading Period Four:
Demonstrates through performance pitch and rhythm concepts.
