Chorus Membership Information
Philosophy
Dedicated to excellence, the Lewis Pride Chorus has a two-fold purpose. Membership offers professional-level instruction in vocal technique as well as exposure to a variety of choral styles. Involvement also enhances young people’s lives, helping them to develop qualities of self-reliance, personal integrity, responsibility, compassion and confidence in their abilities. The Lewis Pride Chorus is a performance group that requires teamwork in order to meet its objectives.
Rehearsal Days/Times and ASP
Chorus begins on Tuesday September 7th and is held each Tuesday immediately after school in the music room from 2:20-3:20. After rehearsal, students should either go directly to ASP or be picked up out front of Lewis as a car rider. Car riders must be picked up no later than 3:30 pm on chorus days. During conference week, chorus will meet from 12:20-1:20 pm.
Attendance
Attendance at all rehearsals and concerts are required for participation in chorus. Unless they are absent from school that day, students should be at rehearsal. Please make arrangements now to attend all rehearsals and performances. Sports practices/games, community and church events, and lack of transportation are not considered valid reasons for missing a concert. Your child will only be excused from chorus rehearsal if they were excused from school that day. If your child gets laryngitis and cannot sing, it will still be beneficial to attend rehearsal – listening is learning and a part of singing. Avoid scheduling doctor and dentist appointments on Tuesday afternoons.
Behavior Expectations
As representatives of Lewis Elementary, chorus students should provide a model for excellence in both singing and behavior throughout the school and community. It is expected that students will demonstrate respectful, courteous and appropriate behavior at all times during rehearsals and on field trips. The chorus operates on a three-strikes policy. Parents will be notified any time their student earns a strike for misbehavior during rehearsals or field trips. Students will lose membership at the accumulation of three strikes.
Loss of Chorus Membership
A student may be dismissed from chorus for the following reasons:
Membership Fee
Chorus is an extra-curricular activity. The school does not receive extra funds from the CCSD to cover its expenses, nor is the leader of the group compensated. A non-refundable fee of $45.00 per chorus member ($45.00 if you already have a Lewis Pride Chorus shirt) covers the cost of field trip transportation, chorus shirt, music, accompanist, choral festival registration, student medals, plaque, and teacher substitute. The fee does not cover the cost of entrance fees to Georgia Tech, The Georgia Aquarium, or the Atlanta Braves or other expenses not listed above. Make checks payable to LEWIS ELEMENTARY.
Performance Dress Requirements
ALL STUDENTS will wear navy chorus shirt (polo), ) khaki pants (tan), and black dress shoes (no tennis shoes) and black belt for all performances unless otherwise determined by the director. Only the cost of the shirt is covered in the $45.00 fee. Parents/guardians are responsible for providing khaki pants, black belt, and black shoes.
Communication via E-mail and Dial Outs
E-mail is the most efficient way to communicate with me. I will be sending out Chorus News via e-mail regularly with chorus information for rehearsals and field trips. Please check your e-mail on a regular basis and notify me if your e-mail address changes. Chorus information is available on my web page on the Lewis Elementary web-site. Information by hard copy, will be sent home with the students as necessary. Phone dial outs/texts will also be sent out as needed.
Rehearsal/Performance Calendar/Chaperone Information
A calendar of performances is provided by hard copy and posted under the calendar tab on this web-page. It is expected that students will be at all scheduled rehearsals and performances. There may be changes to the calendar throughout the year. Please contact me any time there is a conflict. E-mail me directly if you would like to chaperone any field trips taken during the school day.
