Fifth Grade Music Standards
Music is a standard based subject. Student grades are based on the success of their performance of the music standards being assessed during the grading period. Skills are assessed through singing, movement, playing instruments, writing assignments and activities or games.
Grading Procedures for Students in 5th Grade
Students in fourth and fifth grade are given two music grades on their report card. The first is a performance grade that demonstrates performance-based competency of the music skills being learned. The second is a behavior skills grade that indicates their participation and behavior leading to success in the classroom.
Performance Skills Grades
The performance grade is determined by each student’s ability to meet the standard for three specific music skills for each quarter. An average of those three grades will be indicated as either and A, B, C, D, or F on the report card.
Behavior Skills Grade
The behavior skills grade is indicated on the report card as
S – successful, NI – needs improvement, and U – unsatisfactory.
