Lewis Pride Chorus Audition Information
All interested 4th and 5th grade students are invited to audition for the Lewis Pride Chorus. Chorus is an extracurricular activity that rehearses each Tuesday after school from 2:20-3:20 from September to March. The purpose of chorus is to provide students with the proper foundation for choral singing, serve the school in community relations, and expose students to a varied repertoire of music through performance opportunities. While the enjoyment of singing is a top priority of chorus, appropriate student behavior, shared responsibility to the group, and a commitment to attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances is expected. Chorus membership requires a commitment to several evening and weekend performances.
AUDITIONS AND CHORUS MEMBERSHIP
There are two membership requirements for chorus: First, students must successfully pass a singing audition demonstrating the ability to accurately a) match pitch, b) sing back a sequence of notes played on the piano and c) sing a familiar song (students will be able to choose a song from a pre-determined list). The second requirement is meeting behavioral expectations. Students will receive a behavior grade (U,NI,S) on their audition form based on previous experiences in music class at school. Any student receiving an “NI” (needs improvement) or “U” (unsatisfactory) will not be admitted into chorus. Space for chorus is limited and auditioning does not guarantee membership. If you do not think your child can handle the disappointment of not passing, please do not allow him/her to audition. Auditions are only held at the beginning of the year.
Auditions are free. Students will not be allowed to audition without a signed permission form. Once your permission form is received, you will be notified of your child’s audition time. Auditions are conducted by two qualified music/voice instructors and only last a few minutes. Parents are not allowed inside the audition room. For students passing the audition, there is a non-refundable chorus fee of $45.00 to cover the necessary operating expenses.
Chorus audition information is sent home to ALL fourth and fifth grade students during the first week of school. If you have any questions, please e-mail Mr. Grebe at [email protected].
